Plum Pitt Disorder?

I have been struggling with some “residue” sickness in my throat since I was sick this winter. Actually, I’ve had some voice and throat issues since I got strep a few years back. The problem has really increased since I started speaking and teaching on the 3HGVS Show and for my YouTube videos. I’d literally “loose my voice” after speaking for 2 hours. It would be fine the next day. I really ignored it for the sake of continuing in ministry…But this quiet struggle is disturbing my inner shalom. ๐Ÿ™‚

The following may be more than the reader wants to know, but whateverโ€“โ€“it’s my blog. ๐Ÿ™‚

What is Going On?

Sometimes I’ve got this phlegm that I can’t seem to clear and when I try (like trying to clear my throat all day), I fatigue my throat muscles. This can persist for weeks. Also, there is a feeling like something stuck in my throat that I can’t swallow. It’s super annoying. I’ve been starting to seriously exercise and I’m wondering if that is making it worse. I think it comes and goes with the cold and hot weather, eating and stress level.

A few weeks back, after talking with Bruce in Costco, my symptoms were bad enough that I decided to make an appointment with the ear, nose and throat doctor that we used to take Hadassah (who happens to be Bruce’s doctor, too). It was going to be over $500 to see him as a new patient. Cash. Out of my pocket. UGH! Frustrating.

Before spending that money I wanted to be sure I really needed to go. Isaac wants me to know what is going on so that I can relax. He’s not worried about it as he has seen it come and go, but he’s okay with whatever I chose to do.

Papa? What do You Want?

Of course, Isaac came home last weekend and my symptoms “went away.” So on Monday I cancelled the doctor’s appointment for today. But then, of course last night my symptoms came back strong. This morning I prayed hard and asked Papa to tell me what to do. I asked him to tell me by allowing the doctor to still have my appointment spot open ….. or not.

So, I tried to trust Papa and know that he didn’t want me to go to that doctor now. But the symptoms got worse today.

I started to panic. It doesn’t affect breathing at all. And when I eat it’s fine. It’s between those things that the problem exists.

This afternoon I was on a hike with Hadassah and the dogs when I realized that it was Wed. and a naturalistic doctor I know was at a Health food store I frequent. He comes at 4:30pm for 1 hour and just answers customers questions. It’s super cool of him to do this for the community.

It was 4:35pm and we were still hiking home.

In the door, I called the store. He was there.

A FREE “Diagnosis”

I drove the 45 minutes to the store and made it in time before he left. He was alone with no one to talk to! Yay! I got his full attention and got to tell him all about what was going on.

He grinned and said he thought I had something that the Chinese named as “Plum Pitt Disorder.” And he said there is a Chinese herb that will helps clear it up really well. I used to love Plums…

He also thought I might need some allergy testing for any foods that might be aggravating the phlegm issue. (This week I had decided to see if the dairy was causing the phlegm so I stayed away from dairy. But he said almonds will send people through the roof. Guess what I had for breakfast? A banana and a ton of almond butter!! OMG! That might be why I flared up today!)

He also thought the voice lessons that I’ve been doing this week were a good idea, but not now. Not until this goes away.

And Nettle tea will help the itching ears and phlegm. ๐Ÿ™‚ Who knew?

My Curious Jewish Naturopath

Anyway, perhaps that is what Papa wanted me to do today. Go get “looked” at by a natural doctor first and spend $20 on some Chinese herbs instead of $500 on a full on exam. The doctor thought I should have my vocal chords looked at someday, as he has the same issue with speaking and then losing his voice afterwards. But that is what I was hoping the voice lessons would do — strengthen my chords.

All in time…

But at the end of our conversation, he smiles and whispers to me, “you keep Passover, right?”

I said, “Yes.”

He asked shyly, “do they have … what is it called? It’s to make in soup? I think it’s matzah ball soup? Oh, I’ve been wanting some of that soup!”

“Oh! You’re talking about matzah flour to make the matzah balls out of.” I did get a box a while ago and still have it on my shelf at home.

Now I know that his wife is a Catholic and he was raised an observant Jew.

“Do you celebrate Passover?” I asked.

He said, “now that I’m married we do more Catholic things than Jewish things, but I’d like to someday celebrate Passover again.”

We chatted a little more and I said, “If you want, I’ll bring you our seder haggadah tomorrow when I come get the herbs tomorrow.” He asked what a haggadah was. It sounded familiar to him, but he couldn’t remember what it was. I told him it was the thing you read at the seder meal that helps you through the ceremony…..

He lit up!

He got giddy!

He was so excited to have it!

His reaction kinda blew me away. So, tomorrow I’ll give him my personal haggadah — the Melchizedek one that is all about Yahshua’s sacrifice! OMG! Super awesome!

CBD and Nettle Tea

I grabbed the Nettle tea, a bottle of CBD water and his written out prescription that I’ll take to his office tomorrow during open hours (as his office was closed tonight) and buzzed to the chiropractor before I went home. As soon as I left the store, my symptoms began to reduce. I researched Plum Pitt Disorder and found out that it can come on through a strong bought of strep throat (which I had a few years ago and which I think I had this past winter) and stress.

My stress has been through the roof with starting this new business and Isaac being gone. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ That’s why it dies down when Isaac comes home. Because when we are together I am better! ๐Ÿ™‚

Now I just pray that the herbs he has for me tomorrow will do away with this phlegm, this constant clearing and trying to swallow this “lump” (plum pit) in my throat, my off-and-on itchy ears and the feeling of rawness in my vocal chords. ๐Ÿ™‚
